100 Year Anniversary for St. Peter's Church Cake

Image
I had the opportunity to make a cake for my church's 100 Year Anniversary! What an honor! I've been going to this church since I was probably in kindergarten. Also went to the school that is attached. Also got married in the church!  It is so beautiful inside. Take a look.  This picture is from our wedding in 2012. This is the inspiration for the cake here. I studied this photo for quite a while... For the cake, I decided to go big and try something I hadn't before. I wanted to make a cake with a little extra on top of it. I made my own sculpted crisp rice cereal treats! I made sure to do a practice round first, just to make sure it was doable. Can you tell what I was going to make?!! Yep, the steeple can be seen from various points in Delano. Here is a rough draft of the design of the cake, probably my third one or so. I really wanted to incorporate the gold color of the cross on top, and the green of the "onion" as my mom calls ...

Brownies

BROWNIES ! I had a request from my husband's work to make some brownies. They wanted mint and also peanut butter. So there you go. Here are the pics :) I figured might as well use the Fall season as an inspiration, so made mint chocolate edible leaves.   Here is a peanut butter drizzle with Reese's topping.

~~ HAPPY HALLOWEEN ~~ I made a variety of desserts for a Halloween party. Sugar cookie cutouts of pumpkins, bats, and ghosts, along with decorated mini and regular cupcakes.  I'm not really sure what those one eyed creeps are, but they are cute for Halloween I think. Those are edible eyeballs. Yum!? Also I had pumpkin and spider web mini cupcakes. The regular sized cupcakes had ghosts and other creepy things on them made out of marshmellows, and different colored frostings.

Fall Cake

Image
I made a Fall cake. I tried a new technique to make chocolate leaves that are edible. Very neat.  I also had these mini cinnamon chips as a border.  I had been watching Cake Boss lately and now am getting inspired. :)

Luau Desserts

Image
Aloha! We recently had a luau at our house and so  I made sugar cookies shaped like Margarita glasses. My sister decorated them so I cannot take that credit. If you look closely you can see the salt rim at the top, but of course we used sugar. I also made cupcakes of course. I put real pineapple juice in the batter. I had blue frosting for water and brown sugar for sane. Then added a couple other beach items.  I added some candy fish as well and toasted coconut on some.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUSBAND

Image
Happy Birthday!!! My husband enjoys baseball so here you go. I tried the grass tip for the first time which worked really well, that is the border. The "dirt" is brown sugar.

EASTER Cake

Image
Happy Easter! I wanted to try a basketweave cake. Never tried it before... So I watched a 2 minute youtube video and gave it a try first on a mini cake. That went pretty well so I went onto the larger one. It only took maybe 10 minutes or less to do.  Next I put "grass" (green coconut) on top. I kept top part of the cake rounded for more volume.   Then came the chocolate eggs of course. Wallla! And there is my first basketweave cake.  I also decorated some cupcakes. Here is a basket with a handle with jellybean eggs. I displayed them all and had a butterfly on top!

Dad's Bday

Image
I try to personalize if possible birthday cakes. My dad enjoys beer so here you go. We had gone to the Leinie's brewery last fall, and picked up some items in their gift shop. We gave him a Leinie's bucket with some plastic cups and coasters too.  I wanted to add a little something extra, so I went for a small Smirinoff. Too bad it ruined the Leinie's theme though...

Birthday Cake for Anna

Image
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY SISTER ANNA!!! Today we celebrated my sister's birthday! She requested I make her a cake. She said she really liked the wedding cake I made for her, so I did this cake similar to the top tier of her and Shawn's wedding cake. I kept the white roses with green leaves, but added a few extra touches. I asked everyone at the dinner table how many sticks of butter are in the frosting of this cake.... its 3 1/2. Yep, that's right!
