Carlo's Bakery

Today my family shopped at the Mall of America and we were super excited to try out the bakery from CAKE BOSS! It opened fairly recently. Now we don't have to go to Hoboken, New Jersey!

We walked up to look at the menu and Jeff says, "Isn't that one of the guys from the show?" Frankie was there!!! There was no event or anything. He was just randomly walking around the bake shop. Of course we walked up there, hoping to meet him, lugging the double stroller with. Unfortunately by the time we got up there he went through a door into the back. Fail.

At least there were lots of baked goods to look at... luckily there was no one in line (it's a Monday) so we were able to take our time and picked out some items in the window.

He eventually came back out. Woo Hoo! We asked for a quick picture. He was super calm and graciously took pictures with us.

We wanted to get the classic items of cannoli's and lobster tails, as we had never had them ever before. We ordered "Buddy's Favorites Box" (4 cannoli's and 2 lobster tails) and the 6-Cupcake Box. Since the total was over $35 they put in a free Carlo's Bakery drinking glass in.

We went over to the food court and had lunch. Could not wait for dessert! We each had a cannoli first. WOW. That filling was so good.

You could see the vanilla bean specks in it. There was so much filling in each shell. The kids of course wanted some dessert action so I let them each have a half of a cupcake. Vanilla of course. Saving the oreo and others for us! Matthew had a few bites and then said he was done... So I happily ate the rest of his half. It was super yummy. The cupcake was pretty dense (still cold from being in the cooler). It was definitely NOT a boxed cake mix. The frosting was so creamy. Basically pure butter that was sweet. Mary Kate had no problem finishing her half. (I later in the car ride home had the red velvet. The frosting was super cream cheesy tasting. Only eat it if you really really love cream cheese. It was good.)

As Jeff said (completely serious), "So our diet starts tomorrow, right?", we each had a lobster tail. Holy cow they were big and had TONS of filling inside. That was Jeff's favorite. It was super messy to eat. After taking a bite, the filling just oozed out everywhere. The dough part was pretty dry and crispy. I enjoyed the cannoli and cupcakes better than the lobster tail, but the lobster tail was Jeff's favorite dessert.
